Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
Discovered in 1991 by Richard LeBlond and described in 1994, this species' nearest relative is Carex flava, a northern species which ranges south only to PA and northern IN. This is a rare case of a newly described Carex species that is not a split from another, but literally was a new discovery. Read more at Vascular Plants of North Carolina.
