Dig deeper at SERNEC, a consortium of southeastern herbaria.
This has one of the most restricted global range of any species found in NC, as it is known only in Stokes County and in adjacent Patrick County, VA. Read more at Vascular Plants of North Carolina.
The description and key in RAB are partly in error, being based on the inadequate and unrepresentative material available at the time. C. micranthera is most closely related to C. rotundifolia, but also shows some affinities to C. pensylvanica. Read more in Weakley's Flora (2022)

If a search such as "Carex leptalea var. leptalea" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "Carex leptalea".
Or, to minimize chances of a misspelling, try just "Carex le".
Less is more: If "pencil flower" doesn't deliver the results you want, try "pencil".
